Scenes from the woods
I'm too busy cleaning, preparing and cooking mushrooms to do a long entry tonight, and since a picture is worth a thousand words, I figured I would let some photos from the past few days speak for themselves. The one thing that always amazes me about the morel is the variety of patterns and colors.

Nice photos, and awesome experiment. I would like to try that too. Do you not put a lid on at all? Is that what destroyed your first experiment? When you take the mushroom from the ground do you take it far down, taking some of the mycellium? I tried to "transplant" a mushroom mycellium once, but that was a bad idea, and probably just ruined the original mycellium. Found 18 today at camdenton. all around ash.
Well first of all, I don't generally dig them up so I can't speak to your digging question.
The one in the first experiment was growing out of old decayed wood and I pulled up the whole piece of wood which include the mycelium.
When I tried to do this a second time, the wood broke and I did not get all of the mycelium. The results were that the morel didn't grow but began to dry up because it didn't have enough mycelium to support it. At least that's what I think happened. Really its all pure speculation.
